old house monday

New name for mondays same old house music. We figured we just call it what it is. Anyway hear is the Ghosties- ghosties -ghost in my house, which was jacked to become whores in the house. When I start ripping more of my old vinyl I'll throw that track up, but for now enjoy the radio friendly version.

Speaking of the radio I was on ghost dad's show and dropped a lot of old house records, rap music, and some suicidal tendencies. It was a fun time and you can find the audio to it over at ghostdad's site mofo radio

I took Rakim's advice for the picture there and didn't smile, but I am far too handsome to be menacing. It's really a shame

I am going to brick city, anywhere know where redman is going to be sunday?

Yo hopefully y'all tuned into mofo radio Wednesday night and heard your boy playing dem records, errr mp3s. Shit I kept it strictly radio and just played tracks so for the dudes that like listening to the full 6 minute versions of all your late eighties and early 90's house and hip-house y'all would have been in heaven the first hour and half. After that, and some interviewing by Ghost Dad where I probably lost a couple gigs in boston, I blame dj stanley (next few days we will have the audio of the radio show and a full breakdown of who dj stanley is). Then I told a story how I caused the east-west coast feud because of pmd's new single, and then I played some suicidal tendecies.

which someone imed into the show came out in 1983, which blew my mind because I was one years old in 83, and always thought this record came out like in 89-90. I am glad I been educated. then I played some eat cloud records and that rave venetian snares track that tested the waters of how much saying fuck you can get away with during safe harbor hours (sorry ghost dad about that track), Anyway I am heading to NJ for the holiday, yes passover. Speaking of stoners new mix coming but not for sunday, cause real stoners get high everyday, 4/20 is like new years ever for drinkers, total amature hour. But look for the new mix sometime next week, and a new mix soon from me and evaredy that will heavy on the rap like monique is on a scale.

In honor of New Jersey here is an artifacts track and a lords of the underground video

radio tonite

Catch me on Ghostdad's mofo radio tonight from 10-1. If your in the boston area you can catch it on 90.3, or if you on the internet wzbc.org

And if you missed the scissor test last night you should be ashamed. Ghost Dad killed it. Brian Levin killed it. Asami Yamazaki scared the white folks. I started the night playing all booty shit for the kids on the dancefloor like this
dj fatman - feels great
and ended the night playing all chicago house and detroit techno
jackmaster - one trac mind

frunk & docused.

Here's the thing about ridin' round Philly on a Saturday night: everybody's loose. And the PPA is out in force. Fuck PARKING WARS (on A&E, it's a good show). They were booting cars every block. So we had the radio station on Oldies 98, which has shifted from "the 50's and 60's" to the "60's and 70's" to apparently appeal to a younger audience. Hence inching block to block to ABBA and KC & The Sunshine Band, when, clearly, Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes were all over the 70's, Oldies 98 is fucking up. What you do is post up like an asshole, noticing someone walking to their car. Packed to the brim, side-streets filled. Even if you have your blinkers on, ready to reverse into a spot and someone in an SUV comes in behind the spot and puts their blinkers on, even when a bike cop stops to mediate the argument over the spot, like a Seinfeld episode. I did the same, three blocks away, fuck the cars behind me, this is Philly, the PPA ain't gonna boot me tonight. The sign gave us two hours. We ate our Jim's Steaks (fuck Pat's, fuck Gino's, those ain't real Philly cheesesteaks, in Center City, good steak sandwiches? Jim's Steaks or Iskabibbles, both on South St. around 4th). Cleaned out Repo Records up the street, their entire Soul section got taken. A good 200+ records for ____ (thanks to thine tax refund). Mint or near mint. Bad Brains self-titled AND Black Dot, mint. Grabbed a couple Joy Division reissues and Neu! imports to round it out.

Sifting through my newly-scored records, can't let y'all get a handle on what I'll be sampling, so I'm upping a special one from a special record to Zshare. At the bottom of the post. One that me and the lady dig when we're exacerbating the romance, physical style.

Muthafuckas on coke ruined gum.

is it spring yet?

I am taking it back to the summer of 2005 tonight with an old fashioned tuesday scissor test with no live acts and me just playing them records all night. Evaredy will be playing Lemon Red's role, unfortunately there will be no Funwrecker, white gloves and whistles. Its going down from 9-1 at the Red Door in Portsmouth and as always no cover and 2 dollar pbrs.

I think I am going to play a lot of house tonite, you know that good vibe shit. Spring is right around the corner right?

old head monday for the irish

Yo it's st. patrick's day. This means we more drunk and focused than usual. Since we celebrating, I decided to look to see if I could find the ed lover dance on youtube. Instead of finding ed, or maybe even dr. dre, the fat one, I found this gem of Jason doing his own version of it

Umm either Jsason is on loop, or dude just loves mark the 45 king a lot. Either way its fucking awesome. So in honor of Jason we celebrating the 45 King today with a couple of his house joints

old head monday in celebration of sam casell

I feel like Sam Casell is a big hip house fan. I can see him and KG dancing to shit like this while Scalibrine just smiles and looks on adoringly at them.
fast eddie- hip house 89

elbow grease & afrobeat.

Turned 25 on February 26th. Mid-life, by my estimates. Longer than I expected. It's cliche, but not making it to 21 in the slums is normalcy. I dig aging in my twenties. Assholes towed my car Friday night. Private parking, apparently. But no signs, no paint, no markings, no No Parking/Private Parking/Reserved. Had to wait until today to get it out. $175 for towing and them keeping it all weekend. $25 parking ticket (thank god I wasn't in Philly, worst city to get towed in). I'd fight it but I don't have the time, money, resources, etc. About to spend a piece of the rent on a new fishing pole. Didn't get any ice fishing done this winter. Never thought I'd be so glad to see the beginnings of spring. Fuck spring. Birds fuck in spring.

I dig BP's post on the 26th. But he needs to up some Readhead Kingpin. That serious hip-hop house shit way before Kanye did his "Stronger" thang. If I wasn't 56k, I'd up "Pump It Hottie".

Upped "Zombie" by Fela Kuti. Y'all need to get hip to some afrobeat. Appreciate it, bastids. That long ass song is a bitch to upload via dial-up.

biggie smallz is the illest

We lost biggie on the 9th he was one of the best (arguably the best) and a personal favorite. Tomorrow night we have Icon the mic king from philly at scissor test. No cover, 2 dollar pbrs, and me and evaredy playing classic rap music an more biggie songs than you can handle

ol head monday that club scene

special ed - club scene
We go back to 89 for this classic hip house joint from Special Ed of his first album youngest in charge. Howie Tee absolutely murders this track jacking great house tracks like ralphie rosaro - you used to hold me and flipping the jb's blow your head shit (and this shit when that sample drops sounds like the blueprint to the motherfucking rave is over shit with pase rock and diplo)

We do old head mondays to teach the kids, and to warn them you don't want to be the dude who plays an itunes tracklist at a party, and jumps around like an idiot behind the the computer screen pretending to dj. 10 second pauses between songs is not a good look. Learn your history kids I am getting tired of hating.

The red door my home away from home was nominated for the best rap music venue by the portland phoenix. old head shit on a day other than monday

Yeah yeah its not monday I know. Here is a Jasper St Company track. They were a group put out by Dj Spen, who you should know if you like house music, or that Milli Vanilli girl you know its true song which they ripped off from his production group Numarx, which is odd in itself not only did they lip synch the song they fucking stole the track from someone else. Anyway this is some of that real deep, soulful shit.

old head monday..wait a minute its monday`

This week I am dropping some Dynamic guvnors. I am pretty sure this group came out of the UK rave scene dropping their first record in 1989, and were hugely influential in the development of the b-more club sound. It has that old UK breakbeat rave type sound, but they chop up shit nice and stay away from being corny example when they flip this madonna track here

dynamic guvnors - ladies with an attitude

Side not old school heads appreciate how hot madonna used to be. Sure she is lame as hell now, but fuck young madonna would have done such a better job redoing those marily nudey photos than Lidnsey did. I mean I love the girl but she's no old madonna, and ain't on the the curvy level of marilyn monroe. Old heads know the truth.

And I use to hear this shit all the time in mixes and playing out when I was young snot nosed kid. I use to like it even though I figured Krs-one would be dissapointed in me. This shit would not be played in the temple of hip hop y'all. They only play christian rap there. Y'all know Krs one is a christian right?

what the fuck is experimental soul?

Apparently I play experimental soul
they spelled my name right
New article came out in the Wire about red door and their monday series which celebrates four years this monday, and they mentioned my night and said it was a night of "experimental soul" and hip hop. I have no fucking clue what experimental soul is but apparently I play it. Awesome. I am invading the red door tonite with my man evaredy to drop the finest experimental soul you'll ever here! But on the real drunk and focused posse in full effect from 9-1 playing all your favorite soul, rap, house, dancehall, and club jams. I think there is a 3 dollar cover, and unfortunately no pbrs, but you can get your grown folk drank on with expensive ass martinis. I have a lot of tricks up my sleeve for tonite so if you don't come out well thats when you lost.

Here is a couple tracks I might drop first is new grind mode. I have no fucking clue who Grind Mode is but I love this track. The first time I listened to it I was about to hate on it, then I realized this is fucking great. It sounds like a snoop outtake from the sexual eruption shit.
grind mode - i'm so high
Next is some of that dance shit from Alter Ego. I am in a techno phase these days I gotta warn y'all. No trance though don't worry but I am feeling this shit. I want to say their german or something but that would require looking it up on google and well fuck that. Here is the song do the research on them yourselves you lazy assholes.

Just in time for Valentines Day we drop some of that romantic shit with Womack and Womack. I am saying I could get about 40 virgins pregnant while listening to this song. I am potent like that. Happy Valentines day you old motherfuckers. And young dudes listen up I might be closer to your age than the ol headz but I been schooled and girls don't want to make love to soulja girl, that is unless their thirteen, and dudes 13 year olds should not be fucking. Call me old school.

I must be getting old I forget about old head monday

Actually I didn't but I didn't have time to post you knew being as fly as I am is a full time job. Big things happening this coming week at the Red Door with The Black Madeen album release party with Left over Wine, Nobody Cares, and Failure to Communicate. Then this friday the Red Door done lost its mind and are letting the drunk and focused posse back for a weekend set. We usually kill them thursday parties there, but for this month we taking over for an after valentines day party and full out Scissor Test invasion (more on this in the coming days plus one time return to my glory days of hating on this fool kung fu mike who dissed the red door (well of course not me or scissor test but thats still my club and when you diss them well you diss yourself) But let y'all be warned last time we do a weekend party there was lemond red's return show where I proceeded to drink a bottle of maddog while djing (which is highly not reccommended for any you upcoming djs for too many reasons to mention and the main one being you ain't me and you can't pull that shit off) white gloves, whistles, vodka, funwrecker, and I djed the end of the party blacked out and decided not puke till the night was done, see I am professional. So yeah expect a good time friday.
Here is you old head joint a great Inner City track which is the reverse version of Big Fun, and if you don't know about Inner City y'all be tripping and need to study.
inner city - big fun (reverse beats)

Next is a track for the kids from Dj Sega who is killing shit right now and is a young dude maybe 18 from philly. He is featured on the new hollertronix shit and his production skills are fucking real impressive. Big tings coming from him soon, and this is the first b-more remix of smells like teen spirit that actually works and does not bastardized the song. White people will love this.

2-2-82

New mix for all you bastards to grab, and this was originally a mix I made for my gf's birthday, and the story behind the 2-2-82 is the first time we went on a date on the way home from a party we got stopped by two cops because Dude Justin stole a an orange road cone, and my girl told the cop she was born on 2-2-82 instead of 2-2-85 because then they would have realized she was under age back then. So in essence this is a perfect valentines day mix to give to your girl. Thats right I am so nice I will help all the loyal drunk and focused dudes get laid.

my gf don't limp

Just read an article by Chuck Klosterman on why the Patriots should lose and why that would be more perfect, well perfect in the sense of how people would remember them, in the long run
Klosterman's loss
It's an interesting argument, but its fucking wrong, and only worthwhile on that devil's advocate steez, because no way losing the super bowl would be a greater feat than going undefeated.
can - der dritte mann
Also I think der dritte mann in german means Tom Brady. Where my german drunk and focused fans to back me up? And side note how, ummmmm, what the fuck Tom, I mean its not you and your brother licking oreo cookies but,

And I think this whole Ankle-gate shit is just a elaborate ruse by the Patriots to fuck with the Giants, and also draw any attention away from Moss and onto to Brady. Its fucking genius I tell you. genius.

To be honest I am not old enough to understand Real Mcoy. That video right there is what I was introduced to by them, thus I always thought they were corny as hell. But lo and behold the og version of another night, and goddamn is this track good. (and I assume this is the og, or at least some remix maybe, either way shit is dope and it strips away the sally parts of the video version.)
real mcoy - another night

Pat's do right

Patriots once again proved they can't be stopped, and whats more the football gods decided to sacrifice good ol eli for their final victory of the year. Remember when the cow gets slaughtered during Apocalypse now? Well thats Eli's future. I feel mercury morris's tears all the way in boston right now. Dude should be ashamed that he made randy the macho man savage's rap song diss at Hogan sound good. Speaking of Hogan how many porn stars are on that new gladiator rip off show of his? Well at least two (one of the gladiators was in gay porn, and one of the contestants, the one who talked about riding bulls for a part time job, well lets just say she did ride "bulls" but that "bull" was a metaphor for a large penis)
Now in celebration of the Patriots doing right, here is a 20 minute Can song entitled YOO do right, I think soulja boy is a fan of this song

its joe friday not sam thursday

I met this guy in a dream, he said two things:
First he was the man who told ghostface killa to wash the balls before the face. Its just common sense
Second he loves to tell girls he loves them like he loves his dick size.

Drunk and Focused fun fact can you name all the wu tang songs where they talk about their dicks, and or size of them? Winner gets a bootlegged dvd of juice which I copied from a beta cassette

Now onto the can tracks
can- the connection

can - full moon on the highway

Drunk and Focused Seal of Approval: sponsored by Maddog 2020

Drunk and focused sometime writer F.D. Marcel got some shine for his remix of his bridle beat he made for sage francis over at Sage's strange famous records label website where it got featured as the clip of the week.(For those that don't know his producer alias is Varick Pyr, and he was the man responsible for Bridle beat on sage's first album with Epitaph records) This track also gets the drunk and focused seal of approval which is sponsored by maddog 2020. (and I never realized before this google search that blue raspberry existed, which leads me to wonder how many other wonderfully wonderous flavors of maddog are there out there that I have yet to find.)
Varick pyr's bridled remix
My man destroys that beat, and reworks a sage track into something you can actual dance too, which if you know how the original track sounds is quite the feat.

Now, like your moment of zen, here is another can track

umm does the kool aid will smith drinks now taste better?

So Will Smith is a scientologist now, ummmmm, yeah I guess he is just a really big fan of shitty science fiction writers, I have a new theory that actors are by far the dumbest people in the world. Listen to tom cruise above and if you can find one thing he says that actually has a coherent meaning behind it I will buy you the first dj jazzy jeff and fresh prince cd and send it to you.

side note how fucking good is jazzy jeff?

old head monday: no extra smiling

I think alot of kids 25 and younger (at least those that aren't from NY), don't truly appreciate how great funkmaster flex is, and just think he is one of them djs that yell a lot, and if you think that, well, thats when you lost. Flex is dope, always was, and always will be. Peep the fourth of july 90's rap mix above and see what I mean
And here is a nice little party break with a some tasteful michael loops throw in for a good measure (and yes its possible to tastefully use michael shit)
funkmaster flex - c'mon baby

No post yesterday because I had an election hangover, and was in the lab with evaredy finishing up a new all vinyl mix for dj stef and VE radio. Look for that mix at the beginning of next week and its heavy on the dance shit, a lot of old house, weird Warp style left field dance shit, some real old techno, and of course some newer jams.

Now onto the can and this is a real fun, up-beat can track even though the lyrics are fucking kind of weird about not wearing pants in the southern side of france or some shit like that. But where the gold in this song is this little key breakdown before the hook, this song is ripe for an edit just using that part
can - hoolah hoolah

And with primaries just getting started here is a little song about the future
can - in the distance lies the future

green can

can - I'm so green

ol head monday

No more random ass monday's, that was only for a couple days in 2007, it's 2008 now so we are bringing out a new feature called ol head monday, and that's when we drop a classic rap and house tracks to appease the old men, and teach the truth to the young blog youth. To start off here is a remix of Aly-Us "follow me track".
aly-us - follow me remix
The remix is a little more dance floor friendly, and a bit harder, which is useful for playing out, but it's no where near as soulful as the original. And since I like the og version better I'll throw up both so y'all can decide for yourself which one you like better.
aly-us- follow me
Now we get to the rap music, and a question does anyone remember the Gavin promo videos, the one I'm thinking of featured videos from the cash money click, king just, a couple southern videos from acts I didn't know, but more than likely also had a shit load of ads in the source, and of course a mic geronimo video, and no not the one of him on the dating show on mtv, which might make Mic Geronimo the godfather of rappers on reality shows so in essence we should thank him for flavor flav's second career, on second thought.....ummm let's just get to mic geronimo shit.

All these tracks are off his first album, and that's because even though I have his second album its pretty weak overall, and not even old heads would want to hear that shit. (Total side rant if B2 still has his Blunt Recordings basketball jersey, and no longer wants it, I' ll take it.)
mic geronimo - master ic (lost boyz remix)
what the hell happened to the lost boyz? I used to love that song about renee, in what the fifth grade? I know one of them died, and then one of them was in that lil kim jump off song, what happened to him?
mic g ft. oc and royal flush - many men
Royal Flush had a great single drop about this same time period, but he's another dude that disappeared.
natural
Now this was the song that got a shit load of yo mtv raps play when it first dropped, and this is the song you thought mic geronimo was going to blow up with, think about he was the dude that put on ja rule, jay z, and dmx, meaning for a time he was a bigger rapper than all three of them combined, but like most rap careers, and reigns on the top, it was short, and we are left to wonder what the hell happened to him.

scissor test's second annual James Brown appreciation night Jan 8

Pretty much any night we dj we celebrate James Brown, god knows almost every goddamn good rap song, and club shit either sampled James, or bit from his sound, but every January at Scissor test we take one night to appreciate the genius that was James Brown, and this Tuesday 9-1 at the red door we celebrating. No cover, 2 dollar pbrs, and james brown mixed with classic rap, soul, and dance music all night long.

Big Brother Beat

So I was djing Thursday and I get a text message from my big brother b2. Now I got to admit I was surprised cause he is a little late on technology, he came from the four track and sp1200 generation. He was at the nuggets game watching the pride of NH, and not to mention drunk and focused part time poster, matt bonner play. I think Bonner finished with 9 points( he is not a ballhog like AI, if he was he get 73 points a game, I am not kidding he is that good), about 8 boards( he doesn't like to show his teammates up), maybe an assist or 11, and probably about a million hustle and intimidation points (this dude is a Mark Madsen who doesn't suck, hell Bonner won the dunk contest at one of those McDonald All Star games in high school).
here watch Bonner cross madsen and then eat his soul in the process

I also love the white guys calling this game, they sound like Dave Chappelle in white face.

So anyway back to B2 who requested we drop Nas- It ain't to tell, which we did cause we got it like that, and since we got it like that for all the drunk and focused fans, we have barry horiwitz like fan support, here is a little blend me and evaredy did awhile back for a throw away mix with ain't hard to tell, the original sample human nature by michael, and the instrumental from Non Phixions thug tuning which jacks de la and cypress beats.
drunk and focused posse - Nas, Michael and thug tuning

And we can't forget the Can with two songs off their Unlimited Edition comp released in 1976

can day 2

Animal Waves is one of my favorite can songs which sounds really good on drugs, it doesn't hurt that its 16 minutes of can in their freakout disco glory.
can - animal waves
Also since its fucking almost 16 minutes long, and thats rolling into jam band territory, I did a little edit of it which cut it down to half that time, and with an extra long ass intro for all you san francisco djs. Speaking of SF drunk and focused has a new all vinyl mix dropping for ve radio really, really soon. Be on the look out for that, and catch us this tuesday at the scissor test at the red door for our second annual James brown celebration.

2008 and we celebrating with Can

It's 2008 which means drunk and focused is back and for each day in January we will be posting up a Can track, because we so benevolent, and always out to teach like the teach the youth and shit. Plus y'all need to be able to know at least one Can song other than Vitamin C, which still rules, but there are much better Can songs. Like for instance the first Can song of the new year, and the aptly titled,
can - future days
which is for all y'all stank motherfuckers with resolutions this year. Drunk and focused only has one resolution, and that is to always stay fly regardless of the year.
