casualities of war

This weeks Soprano starts of with Tony having to lam it to Miami after one of his first kills was dug up by the FBI. It was a bookie that he and Paulie had taken out back in 1982. Carmela makes an interesting comment that, "It's just, this is what life is still like, at our age?"

During the trip Tony becomes increasingly annoyed with Paulie who is a chatterbox and tends to talk a little to loosely about his business as Tony yells at him to keep quiet after he tells a random person at the hotel he was going to Miami. Tony reminds him they are supposed to be laying low right now. Also we find out that Tony used to look up to Paulie growing up because he was such a tough bastard and used to work with his father, johnny boy.

This trip also brought out Tony's suspicion that it was Paulie who told jonny Sac about the Ginny fat joke a few seasons ago that Ralphie said. Tony is relentless in trying to pry it out of Paulie that it was in fact him who said it but Paulie denies it was him over and over again. When they go on the boat trip we even sense that Tony was debating about whether or not to wack Paulie there and these suspicions are felt by Paulie who is a little worried about first getting on the boat which brought back memories of how they killed big pussy. Tony is almost reminding me of a less crazy and paranoid deniro at the end of goodfellas when he started to kill all the people connected to him for the big heist. It seems Tony is stuck between being able to finally enjoy all that he has worked for and the reality that if he slips once everything he has will be taken from him either by the cops or the game. Luckily for both of them the snitch told the cops that jackie aprile who did the murder so they are safe.

In NY the game done changed as Phil decided he had indeed paid the cost to be the boss and took out Doc and had his gunmen shoot him in the eye Moe Green style. This changes everything because we can't forget Phil still has longstanding animosity towards tony because of his cousin killing his brother. He was willing to let it go for Johnny sac's sake but now that he is in sole power of NY there is no way I can see him letting this go(especially after the bar speech last episode) and I think this will have a real impact on the power struggle between NY and NJ. Their beef was just starting up before Phil had his heart attack and think there issues will rise again as the series comes to a close.

Junior's last rise and fall was also witnessed in this episode as he was feeling good on his meds and started running poker games in the mental ward with the help of an Carter Chong, a fellow patient. Junior then flips out on this professor there and beats the shit out of him. In response to this the doctors raise his pills so high he can't function cause he is so tired. Carter realizes they are trying to numb him out so they devise a scheme so he doesn't have to take his pills anymore. After Junior pisses his pants while telling a joke, "Guy comes home with a bouquet of flowers for his wife. 'I guess I'll have to spread my legs now,' she says. 'Why?' he asks. Don't you have a vase?"

The doctors realize he is not taking his pills because his meds stop him from pissing his pants. They give him an ultimatum and in response Junior starts taking his pills and loses all his vitality. This pisses of Carter to no end who looked up to Junior, and finally flips out and beats the shit out of Junior, who in return ends up even more numbed out with a broken arm, and petting a cat at the end of the episode.

Am I Really Posting Puff Daddy?

The remix of "last night" has it's own thing going on that I really like. I'm being a little soft for putting this up but I could care less. Puffy knows how to make some shit for the club. I could see this showing up on a BP and Everady mix. Plus, Big Boi rips it on his verse.

to all the nappy headed hoes of the world

Straight up fuck Imus for being wack, irrelevant, and pretty much non-existent these days but dude got a raw deal. While we here at drunk and focused don't condone calling the girls at rutgers nappy headed ho's ( and on Imus' defense dude has no idea what that term even fucking means) that bad joke fucking made them more famous than the team that beat them in the finals. I didn't see the Lady Volvs on Orpah, or Pat Summit getting a book deal. That comment was the best shit that could have ever happened to them girls so America needs to stop being such goddamn pussies and stop crying over bullshit that does not matter. If you can't take being called a nappy headed ho by an old crusty white guy who does not even know what it means and was making a bad joke you need to check yourself. You gonna tell me these girls are that fucking fragile? Hell, no wonder they lost then. From now on I will refer to them ladies as the girls who were not good enough to beat the actual best team in the nation, yes a bunch of girls who were lacking the talent to beat a team who were so much superior to themselves. Guess what Rutgers coach you don't deserve a book deal because you didn't win a fucking championship. Fuck AL Sharpton and Jesse Jackson for being money grubbing ho's themselves. They are just like Pat Robertson and all the other christian robbers who use religion to pad their pockets and preach hate and division. Can we stop giving them a free pass for their bullshit because they use race as a reason not to question their motives. Or have we gone so far that name calling is the greatest threat in America and we must forget all the other fucking real bullshit going down.

And yes that rant was just the introduction for Tittsworth's latest jam...and yes he went there

this is a young man's game

Alright I'll be the first to admit it Perv has been coasting lately, think Lebron James the first half of this season. But now its playoff time so I am in Jordan mode, no 45, and back to my old ways of skeet skeet skeet skeet skeeting over everyone.
Cousin Cole killing it with a make it rain remix skeet skeet skeet edition

Episode 79 of the Sopranos was interesting on a couple of levels. The episode centered around the release of Chris's movie Cleaver. Things we must remember in the first couple of seasons Chris wanted to write a screenplay. Tony gave him an ultimatum either be with the family or pursue that hollywood bullshit.(And we all know the only dude who can go to Hollywood and still say gangster is Project Pat) Pretty much telling him you want in the game you full time, no part time gangster. Chris seemingly abandoned those aspirations until Tony got shot last season and when Tony was still half in a coma he asked for Tony's approval to pursue this movie. Tony lets him do it cause well he couldn't speak to say no because he just got out of a fucking coma, and when he is back in power, and finally coherent, lets it slide cause Chris tells him it will be a money maker.
making of Cleaver

The night of the movie premier goes off and the evil mob boss is a direct rip off of Tony (think what Aaron Lacrate did with b-more club), down to the white bathrobe and meetings in his cellar. Also of note is that Daniel Baldwin plays the mob boss. This leads me to wonder if he got this gig from his stint on Celebrity fit club, and the fact that he was too drugged and fucked up to lose any weight actually helped him land this role because as we all know a mob boss like Tony doesn't miss to many meals.

Also speaking of the Baldwin's you all hear the phone message his brother Alec left to his what 12 year old daughter? And guess what I approve of that message because nobody wants their daughter to be a stupid spoiled whore and they need to learn some discipline early in life and who better to give such advice than Alec Baldwin himself.

Baldwin to his daughter : Fuck you, that's my name. You know why missy? Cause you drove a Hyundai to get here tonight, I drove an 80,000 dollar BMW.

baldwin's daughter: dad I am 12 I can't drive.

badlwin: Your name is you're wanting. You can't play in the man's game, you can't answer your phone? Then go home and tell your mom your troubles. Because only one thing counts in this life. That is answering your phone. You hear me you fuckin' pig.
(Flips the blackboard)

ABC. A, Always, B, Be, C, Considerate. Always be considerate. Always be considerate when I call you up. AIDA. Attention. Interest. Decision. Action. Attention. Do I have your attention? Interest. Are you interested? I know you are 'cause it's fuck or walk. You answer that phone or you hit the bricks. Decision. Have you made your decision for Christ? And action. AIDA. Get out there and answer your damn phone.

Baldwin: Hey you see this watch? You see this watch?

daughter: Yeah

Baldwin: That watch costs more than your life. I made 970,000 dollars last year, how much you make? You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you cock-sucker. You can't take this, how can you take the abuse you get on a sit. If you don't like it, leave. I can go out there tonight, the materials you got, make myself 15,000 dollars. Tonight. In two hours. Can you? Can you?

Now the problem with Cleaver is that shit was parallel to real life a little to close, including the main character enacting revenge on his evil boss who slept with his fiancee after his death. Even if Tony never did sleep with Aide (no Joey that shit was worse than Jay Z's last albulm and hey Hov stop fucking with white people who like Nascar and Bud Light that ain't hip hop. What's next a duet album with Toby Keith?)

Tony in therapy even says he understands what this movie meant because he understands the sub-conscious too well now and wonders why Chris would hate him so much when he always wanted to take him under his wing and groom him. Now what I am wondering is if this is setting up for Tony's ultimate demise at the hands of Chris, hence the whole boss is a young man's game question that has arisen throughout the season, popping off with Johnny Sac finally losing his battle with cancer this episode and passing on to mob heaven.

Now NY has no boss and seemingly no one willing to step up. Phil is on the fence about wanting the position and yet is unwilling to really endorse anyone else in the family. The power vacuum in NY is going to directly affect Tony and NJ and leaves me wondering will Tony either die at the end of this season or become the kingpin of both NY and NJ? The idea of the show has been that NJ has always seemed somewhat inferior to NY, but now with no one in the power position its not to crazy to think Tony would want to stake his claim there. And even if there are fifty reasons why this will never ever occur, all which I will blindly ignore especially the fact the Feds are finally closing in on him, I think it is something worth watching as the season unfolds.

The logical new boss of NY is Phil Leotardo, who after his heart attack seems unwilling to take the job telling Tony that being the boss is a young man's game. The rest of the potential bosses included Gerry Torciano, who was feared and not well liked and ultimately met his demise this episode when another potential boss, Doc Santoro, had his shooter take him out. Doc is old school and feared but seems to be the Pauly of the NY family meaning he seems always destined to be a made man and nothing more. The only other challenger, and the one some would say is the rightful heir to the throne, is Carmine Lupertazzi Jr., who told Tony he has no interest in the position. He is happy in life and does not want the stress of the position and knows his father, who was boss before, would be happy with his decision not to follow in his footsteps as long as he found peace and happiness.

The show ends with a baptism for Chris's new baby as him and Tony embrace tightly and we are left to wonder if this embrace will lead Tony and Chris down the path of trying to destroy each other, or rather, are there outside factors lurking in the distance that will change everything and bring them closer together as Tony solidifies his power and Chris takes over as second in charge.

Real motherfucking g's

Ahhh the soprano's are back and with that means your boy perv is at again with that old fashioned classic, the drunk and focused review, which is sponsored by maddog 20-20 and gangsta rap.
eazy e - real motherfucking g's

Now as most as you know these are the final episodes of the sopranos, which means they are building toward some epic shit. Even though the wire done passed them as the best show on tv,I still think the sopranos are gonna come hard this season like Project pat straight out of jail.
Project Pat/ Dj Shadow - Midnight in the Projects (beat pervert and evaredy knuck if you buck extended version)

The show begins with Tony getting arrested on some bullshit gun charge on a gun he threw out in a field while running away from the cops arresting Johnny Sac a few years back. The charge came when this sally punk who found the gun was arrested and forgot to listen to project pat's wise advice of not snitching and decided to say it was tony's gun. Things drunk and focused does not recommend snitching on a fucking mob boss. Either way shit gets dropped and Tony is out in time for his 47th birthday and a weekend with janice and bobby upstate in new york at a lake near canada. Side note Canada is know for its strong domestic beers which get beat pervert so drunk he will fist fight mirrors late night for fun and scars.

Anyway shit goes normal as Janice is a total cunt in general and bobby and tony go fire the new assault rifle bobby got him for his birthday and talk about hunting which brings forth the revelation that Bobby only hunts with a bow and arrow to keep the playing field level. Tony also reveals to Bobby that he is now being groomed to be his right hand man and if he proves himself he will be in position to be next in line for boss. The domestic bliss continues as they decide to get drunk and focused drunk and play monopoly. (kids do not get drunk and focused drunk unless you want trouble with the law, friends or family and beat pervert knows this hence why I am out on bail writing this post)
Trae shows mims how to say something on the track (drunk and focused play monopoly bootleg blend)

Anyway the game is going along until Janice wins second place in a beauty contest and Tony makes some comments which infuriate bobby until the point he sucker punches tony. They brawl and in the upset of the year Bobby wins as he knocks tony down through a table and out. At 4 am a still drunk and dazed Tony walks into bobby's room and tells him he won fair and square. Drunk and Focused take on the fight is bobby done whipped tony ass but on the flip side dude is bigger, younger, less drunk, and did sucker punch him and had years upon years of vented up frustration to take out on tony.

The morning after they meet with these Canadians about pills (what up gucci mane) and they end up working out a deal to get the pills cheaper as Tony says they will take care of a problem for them. The problem that needs taking care of is one of the dudes daughter has a deadbeat father that needs taking care of. Tony tells Bobby to take care of this and Bobby gets his first kill as he kills the deadbeat father as he washes his clothes. The question that is left though was Tony doing this out of vengeance toward Bobby, or rather did he gain new respect for bobby after he whooped his ass and wanted to make him take the next level as he grooms him to take over for him if he is ever put in jail or whacked?

spaceships don't come equipped with rearview mirrors

8ball & mjg (feat. three six mafia & 112) - "cruisin'" (ridin' high, bad boy)
p.s.d., keak da sneak, & messy marv - "burdens of his youth" (da bidness, smc)
prodigy - "stop frontin'" (return of the mac, koch)

here's your 2007 1st quarter wrap-up: rich boy & mims unite to form voltron and take on all for platinum ringtone status. what you know about alternative revenue streams, universal and emi? last year, the very same period of time yielded king and fishscale. the term "vivisection" would be a staggering understatement (winona, holler...). now that's what i call diminishing returns!

however, there were gems to be found in the increasingly revitalized world of independent rap musics. witness major label casualties-to-be 8ball & mjg getting the big payback for the "stay fly" cameo on "crusin'." diddy's forced inclusion of 112 is a total hitchcockian macguffin, or at the very least could be construed as "straight bitchmade" by anyone familiar with the 8ball/mjg catalog. my brother pointed out that this beat was made kells and that's really real. would a single one of these bad boy affiliates know a gangsta walk if it buck-jumped and punched them in the grill? i say no. all this means is...8ball & mjg: stacking chips at koch in '08!

speaking of koch, prodigy manages to attone for last year's g-unit disasterpiece on return of the mac. astute listeners will note that every song on the album is about guns. really. it speaks volumes that one of the best release of the fledgling year has been a koch-sponsored "official mixtape." but at least young p is back on the map. and while it might not be punching dudes in the face for living on some high school shit, we'll take it. 2007!

rounding out the podium for bronze is a hot mess of bay area cats. writing about hyphy isn't in my repetoire and i don't want to misrepresent the yay area lineage with some garbage nerd writing. but i do know a good flip of a sade sample when i catch it. the strangest non-r. kelly moment in any song this year is hearing keak go gentle over some sweet guitar loops without getting too introspective or soft. dude is one sellout record away from being next year's rich boy in the modern major label machine. will bme tell dude when to go? better cop those ringtones...

INTERNETS:
- billups on kobe, april in boston, newbury comics, and the girls that broke his heart: "they were always from new hampshire." is it safe to declare billups in that top 5 dead or alive category with fennessey, hua, j-shepp, and o-dub (u.g.k./willie hutch/project pat get the same treatment over there...real talk.)?

- dj blaqstarr: HOOD BORN. sure, he was on the mad decent podcast in january, the epk came out in february, and he just tore down the studio b party with rye-rye in march, but it bears repeating. the kids are already rocking off. because def jam can afford it, here's blaqstarr on the beat for young leek.

- finally, perhaps you were not aware that u.g.k. and three six mafia made the summer mixtape anthem of 2007? maybe you would care if, say, outkast was involved and dre was rapping again? you probably wouldn't be interested in that, would you? (thx benzi.)
